Clip

A fast and easy way to install eyes in wire rope in the field. Wire rope clips come in many different sizes, grades and configurations: drop-forged, malleable, double-saddle, and single-saddle. Drop-forged are hot-dipped galvanized and offer a longer-lasting solution than a malleable clip.

Drop-forged clips come in two styles: single-saddle and double-saddle. Single-saddle drop-forged are the most common and consist of a U-bolt, a wire rope saddle and two nuts. As the name indicates, a double-saddle clip or Mid-Grip clip has two saddles, reducing the possibility of incorrect installation.

Proper installation and use of a wire rope clip requires some knowledge. Installers should carefully read and follow the instructions provided in the clip manufacturer’s catalog or website before installation. According to ASME B30.9 wire rope clips should not be used for overhead lifting slings. Properly-installed clips will have the saddle portion on the live (working) end of the rope. Customers may remember the saying used by the industry to remind installers of correct placement: “Never saddle a dead horse”, meaning do not use the saddle on the non-working, or “dead” end of the rope. Clips should be installed with a minimum of three clips and used in conjunction with a thimble in the eye.

Trinity Sling is a proud distributor of Columbus McKinnon (CM) wire rope clips, which are made in the USA.
